Description

Can a hat be knit from the top down?  Why yes!  Yes, it can.

Leafalicious begins at the top with just a few stitches, is worked in the round (on two circular needles, Magic Loop, or dpn’s), and is increased and worked down towards the brim edge.  It’s a ton of fun to make a hat in such an unconventional manner.

This is an intermediate pattern, but I’ve done my best to give lots of tips. You’ll need to know or learn Judy’s Magic Cast On, LRinc, kfb, pfb, and you might want to place stitch markers between each pattern repeat. There’s also a tip for how to make your last cast-off stitch join seamlessly to the first, complete with photos.

Size:  Adult

Yarn:  100 g ball or skein of Heavy Worsted/Bulky weight.  NOT super-bulky.

Needles:  Two size 9 US (5.5 mm) circular needles or one long one for Magic Loop.  You can always switch to a 16″-long circular needle once the increases are finished.

Skills Needed:

  • Knitting in the round
  •  Judy’s Magic Cast On
  • LRinc, kfb, pfb
  • Finishing
