Description

Get your knitting fix with this blend of chevron techniques and gorgeously speckled, subtle yarns. Snug and comfy ribbing fades into a small band of stranded colourwork and emerges as cables and seed-stitch chevrons on the other side. This hat is all about texture and colour!

The ribbing is knit up nice and snug to keep your ears cozy during a Canadian cold spell, and the main part of the hat is drapey and slouchy for a stylish and flattering fit. The cables decrease in pattern to form a slightly gathered crown, so even if you choose not to use a pom pom your hat will look just right.

This pattern was part of the Ontario stop in the Cross Country Canada Roadtrip Knitalong!!

About the Yarn
Hilori’s Magical Yarnorium MJ MittKit Beta is a hand-dyed kit of 2 perfectly paired colours. The yarn is a DK-weight 100% superwash merino, and the kit includes 115 grams total of yarn, in two 135 yard / 123 metre skeins.

Options are given in the pattern to change the sizing by changing the yarn weight and needle size:

  • To fit a 17-18” head circumference (child size), aim for a gauge of 7 Sts per inch; use fingering-weight yarn and size 2 US / 2.75 mm needles for the ribbing and 5 US / 3.75 mm needles for the rest.
  • To fit a 24” or larger head circumference, aim for a gauge of 5 Sts per inch; use DK- to light worsted-weight yarn and size 4 US / 3.5 mm needles for the ribbing and 8 US / 5 mm needles for the rest.

The Coldspell pattern, as all my patterns are, is given in both charted and written format.
