Description

Kairos is a brioche shawl pattern based on Nancy Marchant’s Undulating Hourglasses stitch pattern. It starts from the bottom point, then increases steadily on either edge to form a big, squishy triangle that makes the most luscious of shawls.

“There are two different types of time. Chronos time is what we live in. It’s regular time, it’s one minute at a time, it’s staring down the clock till bedtime time, …Chronos is the hard, slow passing time…

Then there’s Kairos time. Kairos is God’s time. It’s time outside of time. It’s metaphysical time. Kairos is those magical moments in which time stands still. I have a few of those moments each day, and I cherish them.”

~ Glennon Doyle Melton

May knitting Kairos give you time to breathe, and rest, and soak in something good, like soft yarn and swishing needles and the meditation of stitches.

Instructions are given in both charted and written format, so you can choose your favorite.

Yarn:

Shown in Knit Picks Stroll Solids (50 g = 231 yds = 211 m, 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon)

  • 100 g white
  • 100 g navy

OR, since the size is very easily adjusted, you could use ANY weight of yarn you like and just knit less repeats of the hourglass pattern.

Size:

Wingspan: 70” / 178 cm
Spine: 24.5” / 62 cm.

Easily adjusted to your own preference by knitting more or less repeats or using thicker yarn and bigger needles.

Needles:  Size 5 US (3.75 mm) long circular needle for knitting back and forth. I used a 32″ / 80 cm length to start.

Skills Needed:

  • Brioche knitting
  • Brioche increasing & decreasing
