Three Secrets Shawl – Inverse Reverse Collection

To buy on Ravelry:

Description

Shhhh….

This shawl is completely reversible, with inverse-colour stripes on the Wrong Side. So you get two shawls in one.

The stripes are made with slipped stitches, not crocheted on afterwards, not made with brioche stitch, not done with double knitting (although, I confess, it does have a passing familial resemblance to the double knitting technique). Confuse and stump your knitting friends! They will be so impressed.

You can knit secret codes into this shawl. There are complete instructions for you to knit the columns at intervals that correspond with the dots and dashes of Morse code. So you can spell your own message, design your own meaningless-yet-awesome stripes, whatever you like. Or, you can just knit a shawl that looks like this one. It’s your choice.

The Three Secrets shawl is part of a series of fully reversible, inverse, asymmetrical triangular shawls. You can buy this pattern on its own, OR you can buy the entire Inverse Reverse ebook and get all four shawls for the low, low price of 14.99 CAD.

Why make inverted, reversible shawls?

  1. Relaxing garter stitch, fun colour play, interesting slipped-stitch columns, and a million possibilities for striking, graphic accessories. That’s why. I’m addicted.
  2. They don’t need blocking, which means they make great gifts for people who’ve never heard of blocking before. But only if they’re knit worthy, of course.
  3. They are really cool.

Also, because of the construction, which starts with just a few stitches and grows until it’s the right size or until you’ve run out of yarn, you can knit these shawls up using ANY weight of yarn. I’ve made a really quick version of Two (shown in black & white) with sport-weight yarn and size 8 US (5 mm) needles.

Just grab 100 grams in each of two colours, in any weight of yarn, and needles about 3 sizes larger than the ball band suggests, and you’ll be all set to make an average-sized shawl.

I’ll be making a video to go with this shawl, so subscribe to my YouTube channel, aknitica, for updates. (You can also find really great videos there on topics completely unrelated to reversible slip-stitch knitting. Like how to cast on for toe-up socks or pick up stitches at a thumb gusset without getting holes.)
