Description
The Tulips 2 painting is one of my original artworks on canvas I painted in a series of tulip-bouquet inspired compositions. It’s the largest one from that period.
During my pandemic shopping excursions to Costco, I’d meet my sister at the store so we could visit, with masks on and at 6 feet apart, and she’d help me load two carts with a huge grocery order so I could stay home for at least 3 weeks before having to venture out again. I was using the time at home to paint and paint and paint, and so I treated myself to flower bouquets “for my work.”
Tulips 2 was the second painting I worked on using those flowers, and I enjoyed the light / dark composition of the sunlight glowing through the petals, the shadows cast on my desk and amongst the leaves, the dark board against the glowing curtains, and the shiny highlights of the vase.
I leaned heavily on glazing techniques to help me achieve the right colour blends, but I admit that sometimes, the glazes became muddy, and then I used them as guides to mix opaque colours that were just right. Flowers are such showy, flamboyant things, but their colour shifts can be maddeningly subtle! Painting them was a wonderful adventure.
The Tulips 2 painting was painted with acrylics on deep gallery-wrapped canvas. It comes ready to hang, with painted navy blue sides, hanging wire attached, and a UV-protective varnish coat to protect the pigments for 50+ years. I could change the colour of the painted sides if dark blue isn’t to your taste, but it will delay shipping by a few weeks while the varnish cures.
Tulips 2 comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, Amanda Schwabe.

I make every effort to ensure the colours in my photos are accurate, but because of the usual elements beyond my control (screen settings, the effects of lighting and placement on colour perception, etc.), I can’t guarantee that the painting will appear exactly the same in person.
